History and Architecture

Hotel California was originally built in 1947 as a home for a local family, the Diaz Cota family. In the 1950s, the building was converted into a hotel by a Canadian businessman, John Stewart, who was drawn to the town's natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The hotel's architecture is a blend of Mexican colonial and Moorish styles, featuring stucco walls, colorful tiles, and intricate ironwork. The interior is decorated with antique furniture, religious artifacts, and artwork, creating a nostalgic ambiance that harkens back to the hotel's early days.

As for the Hotel's Connection to “The Eagles” Song, Hotel California gained international fame in 1977 when the American rock band, The Eagles, released a hit song with the same name. The song's lyrics describe a mysterious hotel in the desert that lures visitors in with promises of luxury and pleasure, only to trap them in a sinister web of deception and despair.

The lyrics sparked rumors that the hotel in question was Hotel California in Todos Santos, and that the song was a cryptic warning about the dangers of the rock-and-roll lifestyle. However, the band members have denied these rumors, stating that the song is actually about the excesses of the music industry and the loss of innocence.

Despite the band's denials, the rumors persist, and the hotel has become a popular destination for fans of The Eagles, who come to experience the hotel's enigmatic charm for themselves.

  1. I wish you could include more pictures of your vacation trips in your blogposts! Maybe some of the stuff you saw that isn’t featured in your videos. Got any images of the blown glass factory? (for example)

    1. That is an excellent idea moving forward, unfortunately when visiting I was focused on videoing things more than still photos. I will make a more concentrated effort in capturing still pictures from now on! Thanks!
